Kelly Strayhorn Theater and Carnegie Museum of Art Are Pleased to Announce the Findings of Keyword: International

Twenty micro-grants were awarded to a diverse fellowship of Pittsburgh’s arts activators: international travels, community explorations, and deep dives into bookish research yield a daylong forum that is sure to expand ideas of the international from many local points of view.

Pittsburgh’s cultural explorers will show us the imaginative potential of research to connect with ideas, communities, and urgent conversations around the world.

Keyword: International is a collaborative initiative to creatively define Pittsburgh as an international city at this moment in time. It launched in January 2018 with a community forum, introducing the vision for the program and its interrelated activities: research, a public symposium, and a publication. Pittsburgh’s arts activators—organizations large and small, curators and programmers—were encouraged to submit to an open call for research proposals and twenty $1,500 micro-grants were awarded to support creative research that explores the meaning of “international” in terms of audience and mission, vision or aspiration.
